RWE, a leading power producer in the UK, has announced a landmark agreement to supply clean electricity to Kerry Group’s UK operations for over a decade. This marks RWE’s inaugural Solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) in the UK, involving financial PPAs for power produced by its Cotmoor and Copse Lodge solar projects in Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire, respectively. Each project boasts a potential capacity of 49.9 megawatts, with Cotmoor set to commence construction this year and Copse Lodge expected to begin in 2025.
Olaf Lubenow, who leads Commodity Solutions for RWE in the UK and Europe, highlighted solar energy’s rapid deployment capability and its substantial role in bolstering the UK’s energy infrastructure. RWE plans to expand its UK solar portfolio, which exceeds 4.4 gigawatts, to support businesses like Kerry Group in their decarbonization efforts, aligning with the UK’s net zero objectives.
Kerry Group, a global leader in taste and nutrition, is advancing its climate action goals with this agreement. Juan Aguriano, Kerry’s Global Head of Sustainability, stated the company’s aim to cut its Scope 1 & 2 carbon emissions by 55% by 2030, with a vision to achieve net zero by 2050. The PPAs with RWE, which account for about half of Kerry’s electricity usage in the UK, are critical to Kerry’s renewable energy strategy and its commitment to promoting a low-carbon transition in the UK and globally.
