Kundan Green Energy Secures Contract to Develop Hydropower Plant in Uttarakhand

Kundan Green Energy, a leading player in the renewable energy sector, has been awarded a mandate to construct a greenfield hydropower plant in Okhali, Uttarakhand. The decision comes as a recognition of the company’s stellar performance in executing hydropower projects with top-notch standards and timely delivery.

Scheduled for completion by 2028, the Okhali project will have an initial power generation capacity of 42 MW, with the potential to expand to 60 MW in the future. This substantial addition to Uttarakhand’s renewable energy grid is part of Kundan Green Energy’s broader objective to enhance the state’s hydropower generation capacity.

Upon commissioning, the Okhali project will increase Kundan Green Energy’s combined hydropower capacity to 270 MW, up from the current 104 MW, including an additional 24 MW under construction at Rally Chu in Sikkim. The company aims to invest INR 1000 crore to add a total of 80 MW through greenfield projects to Uttarakhand’s hydropower infrastructure, as per a previously signed agreement.

Mr. Udit Garg, Director & CEO of Kundan Green Energy, emphasized the significance of hydropower as a versatile and sustainable energy source. He highlighted Uttarakhand’s vast untapped hydropower potential and the company’s commitment to developing it according to international standards.

Mr. Garg further emphasized Kundan Green Energy’s strength in project execution, boasting a mean average commissioning time of 4-5 years, significantly shorter than the industry norm of 8-10 years. This efficiency underscores the company’s dedication to delivering quality projects within optimal timeframes.

The awarding of the Okhali project to Kundan Green Energy signifies a major milestone in Uttarakhand’s renewable energy journey, promising enhanced power generation capacity and sustainable development for the state.
