The Ministry of Mines and Energy, in collaboration with the Institute for Planning and Promotion of Energy Solutions (IPSE), has unveiled the Puerto Cachicamo Hybrid Power Plant, marking a significant milestone in providing electricity to the town of Puerto Cachicamo, situated in the municipality of San Josรฉ del Guaviare, Colombia.
According to an official statement, the innovative system comprises 266 solar panels boasting a total capacity of 110.3 kW, accompanied by 48 4,710 Ah batteries, and a 23 kW backup diesel generator set.
The project, requiring an investment of nearly $732,000, is set to benefit approximately 100 households, predominantly comprising families engaged in cocoa, rubber, pineapple, chontaduro (palm heart extraction), and dairy production.
Government officials emphasize that the primary objective is to integrate Puerto Cachicamo into the Energy Communities initiative, aimed at decarbonizing the economy, enhancing energy efficiency, and decentralizing energy generation, storage, and consumption
