The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) has issued a clarification regarding the Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) for solar photovoltaic (PV) power projects under its various schemes and programs. According to the latest office memorandum, solar PV cells and modules that are manufactured domestically must be used in these projects.
The memorandum specifically states that Thin Film Solar PV Modules produced by First Solar’s integrated factory in India (FS India Solar Ventures Private Limited) now meet the DCR criteria. These modules are eligible for use in projects that are part of the MNRE schemes, provided they are made from domestically produced solar PV cells.
This decision aligns with the government’s ongoing support for domestic manufacturing and the push towards sustainable energy sources. It has been endorsed by the Honโble Minister of Power & New and Renewable Energy, emphasizing the government’s commitment to enhancing the solar energy infrastructure in the country.
The MNRE has directed this clarification to all Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) and government organizations involved in implementing solar projects under its auspices, as well as other relevant stakeholders. The office memorandum has also been circulated internally within MNRE and posted on the Ministryโs official website for public viewing.
