Electricity Generating Authority Of Thailand And Swedish Trade Council Collaborate For Clean Energy Advancement

In a significant step towards advancing clean energy initiatives, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and the Swedish Trade and Invest Council have solidified their partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The agreement, aimed at fostering knowledge exchange and technological collaboration, particularly in biomass energy and hydrogen energy storage systems, seeks to accelerate the transition towards sustainable energy practices and achieve Net Zero Emissions.

The MOU signing ceremony took place on April 30, 2024, at the Samyan Mitrtown Hall in Bangkok, in the presence of notable dignitaries including H.E. Mrs. Anna Hammargren, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sweden to the Kingdom of Thailand, and Mr. Wattanapong Kurovat, Director-General of the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency.

Mr. Nitus Voraphonpiput, EGAT Deputy Governor – Fuel, highlighted Sweden’s global leadership in clean energy utilization, encompassing various sources such as biomass, hydropower, solar energy, wind, and hydrogen. The two-year collaboration between EGAT and the Swedish Trade and Invest Council aims to support Thailand’s clean energy transition by exchanging experiences, knowledge, and technologies. This includes leveraging sustainable forest management for biomass fuel production and exploring hydrogen energy storage systems. Additionally, the partnership will focus on training and academic skill development to enhance business opportunities and manage renewable energy resources effectively, ultimately reducing carbon emissions from electricity generation and working towards Carbon Neutrality and Net Zero Emissions.

Mr. Kacper Pierzynowski, Trade Commissioner of the Swedish Trade and Invest Council, emphasized the critical need for sustainable energy solutions in the face of climate change. The collaboration aims to harness the potential of biomass energy and hydrogen technology to drive energy innovation and create business opportunities, paving the way for a tangible transformation in the energy landscape of both nations.
