During his visit to the country, José Manuel Entrecanales, Chairman & CEO of ACCIONA, announced the acquisition of an 80% stake in Freya Renewables by ACCIONA Energía. This move adds an additional portfolio of 880MW under development to ACCIONA’s renewable energy assets.

Furthermore, ACCIONA Energía will undertake the construction, operation, and maintenance of a 150MW solar power plant in Daanbantayan, marking the country’s first public-private partnership in solar power generation. The company also disclosed plans for a 156MW wind farm in Pantabangan and the ongoing construction of the 100MW Kalayaan 2 wind farm in Laguna Province.

The Philippine government’s push for renewable energy development aligns with its targets to increase the share of renewable energy in the energy mix to 35% by 2030 and 50% by 2040.

Highlighting its commitment to social impact, ACCIONA showcased its clean energy program for off-grid and underserved communities in Palawan. Through collaborations with the Ayala Foundation and financing from the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development (AECID), ACCIONA has already benefited 600 households and plans to extend support to an additional 600 homes, along with 20 community centers and businesses. Future initiatives aim to impact over 1,500 households by 2025.

With a significant presence in the Philippines since 2016, ACCIONA has developed flagship projects such as the Cebu Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) and the Putatan II and Laguna Lake drinking water treatment plants.

ACCIONA’s collaboration with underserved communities in the Philippines underscores its commitment to creating lasting positive change and sustainable development across the region.
