After an eight-year hiatus, Korea and Oman are set to resume their bilateral Economic Cooperation Committee, signifying a renewed commitment to strengthen economic ties between the two nations.

Trade Minister Inkyo Cheong and Chairman of the Oman Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ), Ali Masoud Al Sunaidy, convened in Seoul on April 29 to discuss the revival of the bilateral committee.

The sixth Korea-Oman Economic Cooperation Committee meeting, initially scheduled for 2019 in Muscat, Oman, was postponed due to the outbreak of the pandemic. However, with both countries eager to reignite their economic collaboration, discussions on the resumption gained momentum.

Chairman Al Sunaidy highlighted Oman’s emphasis on industrial diversification and strategic investments in renewable energy sectors as key drivers for resuming the committee’s activities. In response, Trade Minister Cheong expressed his anticipation for deliberations aimed at enhancing investment opportunities, identifying joint projects, and fostering deeper economic partnerships between Korea and Oman.
