Rajasthan is setting ambitious goals with a target of 90 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, focusing predominantly on solar and wind energy. Mr. Jiwesh Nandan, a Distinguished Fellow at The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), recently visited Jaipur to mentor industry stakeholders on achieving this vision.

Mr. Nandan, with extensive expertise in Power, Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy, Development Management, and Public Administration, shared strategic insights to enhance Rajasthan’s renewable energy landscape. The state’s Renewable Energy Policy 2023 is a significant driver of this initiative, projecting over 60 GW of variable renewable energy capacity by 2030, split equally between solar photovoltaics (PV) and wind energy.

During his visit, Mr. Nandan highlighted the transformative potential of renewable energy in Rajasthan’s commercial and industrial sectors. He emphasized the need for businesses to focus on resource efficiency and clean energy, driven by consumer awareness and demand. “Businesses reflect the changing values and economics of the world. It is crucial to inform consumers about the possibilities and create excitement about sustainability and a net-zero future,” he stated.

Mr. Nandan also encouraged industry representatives to explore low-carbon policy avenues and integrate solar energy into their operations. He pointed out the potential benefits of shifting agricultural demand to daytime hours and integrating electric vehicle (EV) load to reduce reliance on grid-scale batteries.

TERI showcased its impactful initiatives, revealing that integrating renewables could make up around 35% of the total energy mix by 2030 without incurring extra generation costs. Mr. Nandanโ€™s mentorship aims to advance sustainable practices, promote renewable energy adoption, and integrate energy systems, helping Rajasthan achieve its ambitious renewable energy targets and foster a greener, more resilient future.

TERI continues to lead efforts in assessing future pathways for India’s energy transition, with Mr. Nandanโ€™s visit reinforcing their commitment to supporting industry stakeholders in embracing sustainable energy solutions.
