Amazon Solar has entered the commissioning phase of the Requena solar project, a 7.5 MWp installation that includes an energy storage system capable of offering 9.6 MWh. Located in the Buffer Zone of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, within the district and province of Requena, this project is poised to become the largest microgrid solar plus storage in Peru.

The Requena solar plant, developed with an investment exceeding $13 million, will feature over 12,000 photovoltaic modules. Once operational, it is expected to generate an estimated 6,500 MWh annually.

The project documentation submitted to the Regional Directorate outlines its development in two phases. The first phase involved the installation of 5,040 bifacial and 7,840 monocrystalline photovoltaic modules, each with a nominal power of 580 W and 585 W respectively, culminating in a total power of 7,509.60 kW. This phase also includes the setup of 20 on-grid inverters, each with a nominal power of 352 kW, totaling a capacity of 7,040 kW.

A significant component of this phase is the installation of a Transformation Center for the 22.9/0.69 kV battery system, with a power rating of 3.95 MW. The Energy Storage System (BESS) will provide a storage capacity of 9,654 kWh.

The second phase of the photovoltaic system will add a peak power of 2,500 kW (DC) with approximately 5,500 bifacial and monocrystalline modules, each generating between 500 Wp and 700 Wp. This phase will also see the addition of 10 inverters.

Amazon Solar, operating under the name Amazonas Energรญa Solar, currently manages three projects: Atalaya, Purรบs, and San Lorenzo. In addition to the Requena project, the company has another project under construction in Tamshiyacu and five others in the permitting stage: Caballococha, El Estrecho, Contamana, Orellana, and Lagunas.

The Requena plant will be Amazon Solarโ€™s fourth solar facility with energy storage. The company anticipates that the Tamshiyacu, El Estrecho, Contamana, Orellana, and Lagunas projects will commence operations in 2025.
