Egypt Makes Massive Land Push For Green Hydrogen Production (41,700 sq km Allocated)

NREA Chairman Mohamed El-Khayat announced that the Egyptian government has designated approximately 41,700 square kilometers for the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) to expand renewable energy projects focused on green hydrogen production. El-Khayat stated during a cabinet meeting that 900 square kilometers remain to be allocated.

El-Khayat also revealed that sites for green hydrogen production projects have been allocated for 27 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with various investors, amounting to a total capacity of around 115 gigawatts, which includes 52 gigawatts of solar energy and 63 gigawatts of wind energy.

Additionally, the government has approved land allocations in the Red Sea and Suez governorates to establish renewable energy plants with a projected capacity of 4.4 gigawatts of wind energy and 11 gigawatts of solar energy, El-Khayat noted.
