BNZ, a renewable energy firm, has inaugurated two photovoltaic plants, Alya (24 MW) and Alamak (50 MW), located in the municipality of Alcalรก de los Gazules, in the Andalusian province of Cรกdiz, Spain. These projects mark the company’s first ventures in Spain, with plans to install approximately 600 MWp of solar capacity in the country by 2026.
The solar projects are expected to generate more than 160 GWh annually. BNZ aims to deploy an aggregate portfolio of more than 1.7 GW of solar photovoltaic energy in Southern Europe by the end of 2026.
The construction of these plants has involved between 560 and 580 direct and indirect jobs and collaboration with 17 local companies.
Inmaculada Olivero, Territorial Delegate of Economy, Finance and European Funds and Industry, Energy and Mines, highlights Andalusia’s renewable energy objectives. The region aims to achieve a power of 26,000 MW in renewables, with more than half already installed. Cรกdiz province, where the plants are located, contributes 17% of all renewable generation in Andalusia.
BNZ has incorporated sustainability initiatives into the project, including the implementation of permeable structures with plant walls to facilitate fauna passage and ecological connectivity. Additionally, the company has constructed piles and planted trees and hedges around the plant with native species to enhance environmental conservation. The integration of solar energy production with agricultural crops, known as agrovoltaics, has also been implemented.
