Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) MD & CEO, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, recently assessed the ongoing developments in the 1,800MW 6th phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, following the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model, with investments totaling AED 5.5 billion. This phase is poised to provide clean energy for approximately 540,000 residences and is expected to curtail around 2.36 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually, covering an expansive area of 20 square kilometers. Notably, the 6th phase has achieved a record low Levelized Cost Of Energy (LCOE) of US$1.6215 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh).

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park holds the distinction of being the largest single-site solar park globally, with its capacity projected to exceed 5,000 megawatts by 2030, attracting investments totaling approximately AED 50 billion. These initiatives align with Dubai’s Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, aimed at sourcing 100% of Dubai’s total power capacity from clean energy sources by 2050.

Presently, the solar park boasts a production capacity of 2,860MW, with an additional 1,800MW under construction. Upon completion, the 6th phase will augment the total production capacity to 4,660MW by 2026. DEWA envisions sourcing around 27% of its generation mix from clean energy sources by 2030.

Accompanying Al Tayer during the review were Waleed Bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA, and other senior DEWA officials.
