His Excellency Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy, spearheaded a significant diplomatic and economic mission to Turkmenistan, underscoring the robust bilateral relations between the two nations. During his visit, Minister Al Marri and his delegation met with President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and other senior officials to explore avenues for enhanced economic cooperation across various sectors.

The official meeting, attended by His Excellency Ahmed Al Hameli, UAE Ambassador to Turkmenistan, featured discussions on strengthening ties in crucial sectors including energy, renewable energy, new economy initiatives, tourism, transport, entrepreneurship, and technology. Both sides highlighted the importance of expanding their existing partnership and diversifying cooperation to reflect the strong bilateral relations and shared developmental goals.

Minister Al Marri conveyed greetings and well wishes from UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to President Berdimuhamedov, expressing eagerness to further advance mutual prosperity and development.

Highlighting the longstanding relations between the UAE and Turkmenistan, Minister Al Marri emphasized, โ€œThe UAEโ€™s commitment to enhancing economic cooperation with Turkmenistan has been bolstered by numerous agreements and memorandums of understanding across vital economic sectors, resulting in joint projects that benefit both nations.โ€

He added, โ€œTurkmenistan remains a key economic partner for the UAE in Central Asia, where substantial investments are being made, particularly in energy and renewable energy sectors.โ€ Notably, bilateral non-oil trade between the two countries exceeded USD 1.26 billion in 2023, marking a significant increase from previous years.

UAE Ambassador Ahmed Al Hamli highlighted the progression of political and diplomatic relations between the UAE and Turkmenistan over the past three decades. He praised the efforts of both governments in fostering bilateral ties and expanding cooperation opportunities, which have laid a solid foundation for continued collaboration.

As part of their visit, Minister Al Marri and the UAE delegation participated in the UAE-Turkmenistan Business Forum held on June 24-25. The forum aimed to promote economic opportunities, facilitate communication between business communities of both countries, and foster new partnerships across public and private sectors. Discussions at the forum focused on enhancing economic cooperation, exploring trade growth opportunities, and supporting mutual developmental goals.

Minister Al Marri highlighted recent advancements in the UAEโ€™s economic landscape, emphasizing the countryโ€™s commitment to diversifying its economy. He noted that non-oil sectors now constitute over 74% of the UAEโ€™s GDP, with ongoing efforts to support economic sustainability and foster growth across various sectors including eCommerce, agriculture technology, healthcare, manufacturing, fintech, logistics, tourism, entrepreneurship, and space.

Encouraging investment from Turkmenistan, Minister Al Marri invited companies and investors to leverage the UAEโ€™s favorable business environment and incentives for establishing businesses across the seven emirates. He reiterated the UAEโ€™s readiness to increase investments in Turkmenistan, particularly in sectors such as food, energy, clean energy, water, transportation, and logistics.

During the forum, Minister Al Marri engaged in productive discussions with several Turkmenistan government officials, including Deputy Chairman H.E. Batyr Atdayev, Minister of Trade H.E. Begenรง Goรงmollaรฝew, Chairman of Chamber of Commerce H.E. Gurdov Mergen, and Chairman of Manufacturers and Entrepreneurs H.E. Nokir Guli Ata Guliyev. The discussions focused on fostering future economic and trade collaborations to strengthen mutual economic ties.

The UAE delegation, comprising representatives from 38 government entities and national companies, participated actively in bilateral meetings and presentations during the forum. These engagements aimed to explore opportunities for enhancing trade and investment relations, reflecting the UAEโ€™s commitment to fostering economic growth and cooperation with Turkmenistan.
