The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has signed a landmark agreement with ACEN Renewable Energy Solutions (ACEN RES), part of the Ayala group, to power its headquarters in Mandaluyong with 100% renewable energy. This agreement will enable ADBโs facilities to be powered entirely by renewable energy sources, including solar and wind, from ACENโs extensive portfolio. This move is part of ADBโs ongoing commitment to sustainability and reducing its carbon footprint.
โAs Asia and the Pacificโs climate bank, ADB is committed to lowering its carbon footprint. This includes sourcing electricity from renewable energy sources such as solar and wind,โ said Bruce Gosper, ADB Vice-President for Administration and Corporate Management.
Despite the size of its headquarters, ADB has managed to consume less energy compared to other buildings with similar size and occupancy levels. Lakshmi Menon, ADB Director General for Corporate Services, emphasized the institutionโs long-standing efforts in sustainability: โAs part of our sustainability efforts, we have continued to source electricity from renewable sources since 2014. Weโve also done what we can to consume less in areas of water and paper while producing less waste.โ
ACEN President and CEO Eric Francia expressed enthusiasm for the expanded collaboration: โWe at ACEN are excited to expand our collaboration with the Asian Development Bank. ADB has been instrumental in driving the growth of our renewable energy portfolio in the Philippines and around the region through sustainable financing. Iโm delighted to see the partnership being extended to the supply of clean energy to ADBโs headquarters, thereby strengthening our collaboration.โ
To recognize ADBโs commitment to renewable energy, ACEN RES awarded the development bank its โPowered by Renewable Energyโ seal. This badge is given to ACEN RES customers who opt for a 100% renewable energy supply.
A turnover ceremony was held at the ADB headquarters to commemorate the agreement. The event was attended by ADB Vice President Bruce Gosper, Director General for Corporate Services Lakshmi Menon, and Director General for Private Sector Operations Suzanne Gaboury. ACEN representatives included President and CEO Eric Francia, Chief Finance Officer and Chief Strategy Officer Jonathan Back, Senior Vice President for Market Transformation Tony Valdez, Senior Vice President and Head for Corporate Communications and Sustainability Irene Maranan, and Vice President for RES Operations and Head of Account Management Sheila Mina.
