EU Commissioner Kadri Simson Boosts Renewable Energy And Hydrogen Cooperation In Chile And Argentina

EU Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, is set to strengthen energy cooperation with Chile and Argentina this week, focusing prominently on renewable energy and hydrogen initiatives. Her visit underscores the EU’s commitment to advancing sustainable energy transitions globally.

In Santiago de Chile, Commissioner Simson will engage in a series of bilateral meetings with key officials, including Minister of Energy Diego Pardow Lorenzo and Minister of Foreign Affairs Alberto van Klaveren. Discussions will also involve Josรฉ Miguel Benavente of CORFO and Josรฉ Manuel Salรกzar-Xirinachs of ECLAC, highlighting collaborative opportunities in the energy sector. The Commissioner will additionally meet with leaders from Chile’s renewable energy industry.

A highlight of her agenda in Chile includes participation in the โ€˜Global Gateway Investment Agenda โ€“ Team Europe Initiative RH2 Development Chileโ€™ event, where she will deliver remarks and join a panel discussion on achieving a just energy transition and promoting green hydrogen. She will visit local energy projects, including the Euroclima-funded Smart Energy Monitoring Initiative for public buildings and an EU-supported solar panel project at Winery Santa Ema, aimed at enhancing energy self-consumption.

Moving to Buenos Aires, Commissioner Simson will co-chair the EU-Argentina High-Level Energy Dialogue with Secretary of Energy Eduardo Rodrรญguez Chirillo. This dialogue will focus on collaborative strategies for advancing the energy transition and leveraging green hydrogen technologies. She will also participate in discussions at the German-Argentine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, emphasizing joint efforts in sustainable energy development.

During her visit to Argentina, Commissioner Simson will hold bilateral meetings with Minister for Finance Luis Caputo and Minister for Foreign Affairs Diana Mondino, discussing mutual energy interests and exploring avenues for deeper cooperation. She will visit the Sustenta-Vitis sustainability project, supported by AL INVEST Verde, highlighting EU contributions to sustainable development in Argentina.

Commissioner Simson’s diplomatic mission underscores the EU’s proactive approach to fostering international partnerships and promoting sustainable energy solutions across the globe, contributing to global efforts towards climate neutrality and sustainable development goals.
