Today marked the inauguration of the Lombron solar power plant, a significant development in renewable energy, attended by Alain Gremillon, Mayor of Lombron, Andrรฉ Pignรฉ, Chairman of the Communautรฉ de Communes Le Gesnois Bilurien, Thierry Cozic, Senator for Sarthe, Gilles Fort, Chairman of the FSL group, along with numerous elected officials and members of Urbasolar.
Renewable Energy Commitment
Situated on a 4.5-hectare site of a former sand and gravel quarry closed since 2014, the 4.6 MWp Lombron photovoltaic power plant symbolizes the siteโs transformation towards renewable energy. The project, strongly supported by the elected representatives of Lombron and the Gesnois Bilurien Community of Communes, highlights the collaborative efforts of public and private sectors in promoting low-carbon energy and advancing the energy transition.
The energy generated by this plant will meet the electricity needs of the FSL group, a family-run SME specializing in the storage and transport of frozen products for nearly 40 years. This is facilitated through a long-term Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), ensuring a steady supply of green electricity at a fixed, competitive price, significantly aiding the companyโs energy transition efforts.
Biodiversity Conservation
The redevelopment of the quarry site, abandoned since 2014, was undertaken with a strong emphasis on environmental and landscape considerations. The project aimed to seamlessly integrate into the surrounding Sarthe region while preserving and enhancing local biodiversity.
Efforts included adapting the construction schedule to the natural life cycles of local ecosystems and preserving the woodland to the east of the site, which now hosts bat shelters installed by Urbasolar. Additionally, a hedge of local species was planted to the north of the power station, creating a sanctuary for small wildlife.
These measures have significantly enhanced the biodiversity of the site and its surroundings, aligning with the project’s environmental objectives.
The Lombron solar power plant stands as a testament to the region’s dedication to renewable energy and environmental stewardship, setting a precedent for future projects in the area.
