The Energy and Minerals Regulatory Authority (EMRA) Chairman, Engineer Ziad Al-Saaida, announced that a new fund is being established to support development projects in Jordan’s Ma’an, Tafila, and Mafraq governorates. This initiative, part of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund, aims to enhance local infrastructure and boost economic growth.

During a visit by a ministerial team led by Prime Minister Dr. Bishr Al-Khasawneh to Tafila Governorate, Al-Saaida highlighted that the fund would be utilized for various development projects across these governorates. The move reflects Jordan’s ongoing commitment to promoting sustainable development and renewable energy.

In the oil and natural gas sector, Tafila has seen significant advancements. Since 2008, the natural gas pipeline project extending from Aqaba to northern Jordan has been operational, contributing to reduced energy costs and enhancing national industries. This project also supports job creation within the local workforce.

The electricity sector has seen improvements as well. Between 1999 and 2023, Tafila received electricity infrastructure enhancements funded by the Rural Fils program. This initiative connected 1,075 sites, benefiting 2,288 homes with a total investment of 5.04 million Jordanian dinars. Additionally, grid-connected solar systems have been installed in 131 homes as part of the National Aid Fund.

Current projects in rural electrification include extending electricity to 39 sites at a cost of 320,137 Jordanian dinars and installing solar systems in 80 homes for National Aid Fund beneficiaries and 50 homes for disabled soldiers.

The Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund has supported several projects since 2015, including solar installations for homes, schools, places of worship, and small farmers. Notable projects include the Jordan Wind Company’s wind farms in Tafila and Al-Fujaij, which have created numerous job opportunities and contributed to Jordan’s renewable energy capacity.

Geological surveying efforts have also been advanced, with detailed maps and reports prepared for various governorates. These geological resources support sustainable development, mining industries, and infrastructure planning, including projects like roads, airports, and dams.

The announcement underscores Jordan’s commitment to sustainable development and renewable energy, aiming to enhance local communities and support national economic goals.
