Global clean tech leaders Kraken Technologies and SolarEdge Technologies, Inc. have unveiled a strategic partnership aimed at expanding access to low-cost, green energy for SolarEdge Home Battery customers worldwide.
Under the new collaboration, SolarEdge batteries will be integrated into Krakenโs platform, the fastest-growing energy technology behind Octopus Energy. This integration will enable SolarEdge users to optimize their energy use by charging their batteries with affordable, clean energy during peak availability and selling excess energy back to the grid. The entire process will be automated through Krakenโs advanced technology.
The initial beneficiaries of this partnership will be Octopus Energy customers in the UK and Texas, U.S., who will gain access to the โIntelligent Octopusโ tariffs. These smart tariffs offer significant savings on energy consumption and sales, potentially reducing rates by up to 50% compared to standard tariffs.
Furthermore, SolarEdge systems globally will be integrated into Krakenโs โVirtual Power Plant,โ which currently encompasses 1.1GW of distributed domestic devices. This integration will help balance energy supply and demand and optimize the future smart grid. Krakenโs global network of energy retailersโincluding E.ON, EDF, Tokyo Gas, Origin, and Octopus Energyโwill have the opportunity to develop tailored smart tariffs for SolarEdge battery users.
Zvi Lando, CEO of SolarEdge Technologies, commented, โThis partnership places SolarEdge customers at the forefront of the energy ecosystem and enhances energy resiliency for homes and the grid in the UK and Texas. As we advance towards net-zero goals, these initiatives will be crucial for integrating renewable energy into the grid.โ
Devrim Celal, CEO of Kraken, added, โPartnering with SolarEdge introduces a leading player in clean domestic energy technology to our ecosystem. This collaboration will provide significant benefits to our customers and support the shift towards a sustainable energy system.โ
