PLN And Kumparan Collaborate To Advance Clean Energy Use With Renewable Energy Certificates

The formal handover of PLN RECs, totaling 393 Megawatt hours (MWh), was celebrated at the soft launch of the Green Initiative on Wednesday. PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo emphasized the role of REC in fostering clean energy usage across industrial sectors. “REC represents PLN’s commitment to advancing the use of renewable energy, enhancing the national industry’s competitiveness by offering eco-friendly energy options,” said Prasodjo.

Renewable Energy Certificates are a PLN service designed to facilitate customer recognition for utilizing transparent, accountable, and internationally acknowledged renewable energy sources. Each REC certificate verifies that the electricity consumed is sourced from renewable generators.

“REC is a key green product innovation by PLN, ensuring that the electricity used by companies is verified as green,” Prasodjo added.

General Manager of PLN Main Distribution Unit (UID) Jakarta Raya, Lasiran, noted that Kumparan had purchased 393 units of REC from the Cirata hydroelectric power plant. This purchase highlights the growing demand for PLN’s REC offerings. “We are committed to meeting customer needs for clean energy through REC,” Lasiran stated.

From January to July 2024, PLN reported that 160 customers in Jakarta and surrounding areas purchased RECs, totaling 286,828 MWh.

Kumparan’s Founder & CEO, Hugo Diba, underscored the company’s dedication to environmental sustainability. “By acquiring REC from PLN, Kumparan is taking a concrete step towards greener operations. This action aligns with our commitment to prioritize sustainability in collaboration with stakeholders and society,” Diba said.

This partnership underscores the ongoing shift towards clean energy and highlights the role of corporate responsibility in advancing Indonesia’s green energy goals.
