PT PLN (Persero) has marked a significant milestone in sustainable energy by delivering 24-hour electricity to Parang Island, Genting Island, and Nyamuk Island in the Karimunjawa Archipelago. This achievement was made possible through the deployment of solar power, with PLN operating three Solar Power Plants (PLTS) totaling 182 kilowatt peak (kWp).

The new solar infrastructure now provides clean and reliable electricity to 602 households across the three islands. PLN has also outlined plans to further enhance electricity reliability by expanding its solar capacity in the Karimunjawa Islands.

Edy Supriyanta, Acting Regent of Jepara, expressed gratitude for PLN’s support, highlighting its positive impact on local tourism and economic development. He emphasized that the reliable power supply will foster growth in the region’s tourism sector and contribute to overall economic progress.

Parang Village Secretary, Eko Susanto, echoed these sentiments, noting the community’s appreciation for the clean energy initiative. He is optimistic that the availability of solar-powered electricity will boost tourism and improve the welfare of residents.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo underscored that the initiative reflects PLN’s commitment to both community development and the energy transition. He assured that PLN will continue to support other tourism destinations in Indonesia with reliable and environmentally friendly electricity.

Before the advent of 24-hour solar electricity, the islands relied on a combination of solar and diesel power with limited operational hours. Since receiving operational grants in 2022 from the Jepara Regency Government, PLN has managed and upgraded the electricity supply system, enhancing capacity and reliability.

Mochamad Soffin Hadi, General Manager of PLN’s Central Java and DI Yogyakarta Distribution Unit, highlighted Karimunjawa as an ideal location for solar energy projects due to its abundant sunlight. He confirmed plans to increase the number of solar units to meet growing energy needs.

PLNโ€™s efforts extend beyond the current three islands, having already achieved continuous electricity supply on Karimunjawa Island since 2017. This project represents a significant advancement in renewable energy use and underscores PLN’s dedication to sustainable development across Indonesia.
