Nala Renewables has energised its 50 MW/100 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Kauhava, Finland, marking a key milestone for the company and the country’s growing energy storage market.
The two-hour BESS is designed to provide flexible power capacity, strengthen grid stability and support the integration of renewable energy into Finland’s electricity system. Following energisation, the project will move into commissioning and testing, with commercial operations expected to begin in the coming months.
Nala Renewables said the project was delivered with support from partners including KSBR (Keski-Suomen Betonirakenne Oy), Sungrow Europe and Ramboll. The company highlighted the challenges involved in developing the project at a remote Finnish location, including winter weather conditions and complex construction and logistics requirements.
Rémy Verot, Interim CEO of Nala Renewables, said the project demonstrates the company’s capability to develop, finance, build and operate renewable energy infrastructure across its core markets.
The Kauhava BESS is expected to contribute to Finland’s energy transition by providing grid flexibility and enabling greater integration of renewable power as the country expands its energy storage capacity.
