Norsk Renewables AS has announced a strategic investment in Great Karoo Phase 1 (Ptw) Ltd, a project company that owns a significant renewable energy initiative in South Africa. The project includes a 300 MW wind farm and a 300 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant, both located in the Northern Cape province. This investment represents the initial phase of a larger 915 MW Joint Venture involving Norsk Renewables, Valinor, and NexGrid (formerly Musina Flair Generation).

The Great Karoo Phase 1 (Ptw) Ltd partnership will see Valinor holding 43% of the shares, NexGrid 40%, and Norsk Renewables 17%. This move enhances Norsk Renewables’ strategic position in the South African renewable energy sector, expanding its footprint beyond its existing 315 MW solar PV project in the northern region of the country. The investment aligns with Norsk Renewables’ strategy to diversify its energy portfolio to include wind and solar power, along with battery energy storage systems.

Torbjรธrn Elliot Kirkeby-Garstad, CEO of Norsk Renewables, expressed enthusiasm about the agreement: “We are excited to finalize this milestone investment. By acquiring a stake in Great Karoo Phase 1, Norsk Renewables is not only expanding its renewable energy portfolio but also reaffirming its commitment to sustainable development in South Africa. We look forward to collaborating with Valinor and NexGrid to realize these projects.”
