Siemens Energy has broken ground on a new high-voltage switchgear manufacturing facility in Pearl, Mississippi, as part of its previously announced US$300 million investment to expand domestic production capacity for critical grid technologies and strengthen the U.S. power infrastructure supply chain.
The new facility will become Siemens Energy’s second manufacturing plant in Mississippi and is expected to create up to 300 jobs. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves, alongside company executives and local government representatives.
The factory will manufacture high-voltage switchgear, essential equipment used to protect electrical infrastructure, maintain grid stability, and improve the reliability of power transmission networks. The expansion comes as utilities continue to modernize electricity grids and integrate increasing volumes of renewable energy.
In addition to manufacturing operations, the Pearl campus will include a state-of-the-art training center focused on workforce development and skills enhancement to support future manufacturing requirements, including those driven by artificial intelligence (AI).
Tim Holt, Member of the Executive Board of Siemens Energy, said the investment will help strengthen the U.S. supply chain for grid technologies while supporting the country’s growing electricity infrastructure needs.
Governor Tate Reeves said the project would reinforce Mississippi’s manufacturing sector, strengthen the nation’s power grid, and create hundreds of new employment opportunities within the state.
The project is being supported through collaboration with Rankin First Economic Development Authority, Mississippi Development Authority, the City of Pearl, AccelerateMS, Entergy, and Hinds Community College.
Siemens Energy has maintained manufacturing operations in Mississippi since 1973, including its existing Richland facility, which also produces high-voltage switchgear. The new Pearl factory forms part of the company’s broader strategy announced earlier this year to invest US$1 billion in expanding manufacturing capacity and workforce development across the United States.
