Chairman of Iran’s Chamber of Trade, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture, Farajollah Memamri, has urged Chinese investors to participate in the development of advanced solar power plants in Semnan Province, which offers significant potential for renewable energy projects, particularly in solar power.
Iran is inviting China to collaborate in various areas, including the construction of large and small-scale solar power plants, the supply of solar panels, and the provision of technical expertise for solar energy projects.
In February 2023, Iran launched its most modern solar farm in Semnan, as part of the Energy Ministry’s plan to enhance renewable energy capacity and improve economic efficiency. The 10-megawatt (MW) facility in Damghan generates 40% more energy than similar projects due to its use of advanced technologies, such as bifacial solar panels, a light detection system, and locally developed robotic panel cleaners that reduce water consumption and maintenance costs.
The Damghan solar farm was built with a private investment of €5.8 million. In November, a Chinese company entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Iran’s Maku Free Zone Organization to invest $7 million in a power plant project designed to supply electricity to startups and IT companies within the zone.
According to Hossein Garousi, head of Maku Free Zone Organization, the MOU aligns with the zone’s efforts to become a smart city, which already has the necessary infrastructure in place to achieve that goal.
