Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a prominent player in the renewable energy sector and a subsidiary of Tata Power Company Limited, has announced the successful acquisition of a Letter of Award (LoA) from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL). The contract, awarded through a competitive bidding process on an electronic reverse auction portal, is for the development of a 400 MW Wind-Solar Hybrid project in Maharashtra.
The LoA specifies an initial contracted capacity of 200 MW, with an option to increase this by an additional 200 MW, making it the largest renewable energy project undertaken by TPREL in Maharashtra to date. This initiative aligns with MSEDCLโs broader strategy to fulfill the stateโs Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) and address future power demands at competitive tariffs.
The project, which is expected to be completed within 24 months from the signing of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) between TPREL and MSEDCL, will significantly contribute to reducing carbon emissions. It is projected to cut down CO2 emissions by an estimated 895 million kilograms annually. The hybrid project will combine solar and wind energy, providing a sustainable energy solution and enhancing Maharashtraโs renewable energy portfolio.
The installation will make optimal use of local land resources, supporting regional development while reinforcing TPRELโs commitment to advancing the stateโs renewable energy targets and transitioning towards a low-carbon future. TPRELโs collaboration with the Government of Maharashtra and local distribution companies underscores its dedication to green energy innovation and responsible power management.
With this new project, TPRELโs total renewable energy capacity now stands at 10.5 GW, with 5.7 GW of projects at various stages of implementation. The companyโs operational capacity has reached 4.8 GW, comprising 3.8 GW of solar and 1 GW of wind energy projects.
