The new regional headquarters will serve as Kimbal’s hub for delivering smart grid technologies, including edge intelligence solutions, to utilities across Australia and New Zealand. The company said the expansion will support the modernization of electricity networks, facilitate the integration of distributed energy resources, and contribute to the region’s clean energy transition.

Founded in 2011, Kimbal has deployed more than 12 million smart metering endpoints globally. Its portfolio includes smart electricity meters, RF mesh communication systems, Head-End Systems (HES), edge intelligence platforms, energy management solutions, and AI-enabled cloud technologies designed to improve grid efficiency, resilience, and consumer engagement.

According to the company, the Victoria headquarters is expected to create around 50 highly skilled jobs over the next three years, while strengthening the state’s position as a hub for energy innovation and advanced technology investment.

Welcoming the investment, Steve Dimopoulos, Victoria’s Minister for Economic Growth and Jobs, said:

“Victoria has a strong and enduring partnership with India, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit highlighted the potential for deeper collaboration between our two regions. Kimbal’s investment aligns with our India strategy and will strengthen Victoria’s position as a destination for advanced manufacturing, innovation, and clean energy technologies. We supported Kimbal to establish its headquarters in Victoria because it will create around 50 skilled jobs, bring world-class smart grid expertise, and reinforce our leadership in an innovation-led energy transition.”

Our experience in delivering large-scale smart metering infrastructure across dynamic geographies positions us to support utilities in building more intelligent, resilient, and sustainable electricity networks. Establishing our Australia and New Zealand headquarters in Victoria represents a long-term commitment to the country and reflects our confidence in the strength of the India-Australia partnership.”

Kimbal said its regional presence will enable closer collaboration with utilities, energy retailers, and technology partners across Australia and New Zealand. The company added that the investment aligns with Victoria’s strategy to accelerate the adoption of digitally enabled, low-carbon energy systems while attracting advanced technology investments and generating skilled employment.
