Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a leading player in the renewable energy sector and a subsidiary of Tata Power Company Limited, has secured a Letter of Award (LoA) from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL). This award is for the development of a 400 MW Wind-Solar Hybrid project in Maharashtra.
The LoA consists of an initial contracted capacity of 200 MW, with an option for an additional 200 MW, marking this as TPRELโs largest renewable energy project in Maharashtra to date.
This initiative is part of MSEDCLโs strategy to meet the state’s Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) and future power demands at competitive tariffs. The LoA was issued through a competitive bidding process on an electronic reverse auction platform.
TPREL’s expertise in large-scale renewable projects was crucial in securing this contract. The project is expected to be completed within 24 months following the signing of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with MSEDCL, and is projected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 895 million kilograms of CO2 annually.
The electricity generated will be supplied to MSEDCL, supporting the utility in sustainably meeting its energy needs while enhancing Maharashtra’s renewable energy portfolio. The project will efficiently utilize local land resources, contributing to regional development. TPRELโs partnership with the Government of Maharashtra and local Discoms reinforces its commitment to advancing the stateโs renewable targets and facilitating a low-carbon transition.
With this project, TPREL’s total renewable energy capacity reaches 10.5 GW, including 5.7 GW in various stages of implementation. Its operational capacity now stands at 4.8 GW, consisting of 3.8 GW from solar and 1 GW from wind energy projects.
