POWERCHINA signed an EPC contract with South Africa’s SolarAfrica Energy for the De Aar Central Solar Power Plant on Sept 23. The ceremony was attended by David McDonald, CEO of SolarAfrica Energy; Liu Kai, Deputy General Manager of the Company and General Manager of its Southeast Africa regional headquarters; and Xu Jianglong, Deputy General Manager of the Regional Headquarters.

Located in the town of De Aar in South Africa’s Northern Cape Province, the project will have a total installed capacity of 342 megawatts, making it the largest single-unit solar power plant in South Africa. It will supply clean energy to large data centers and other commercial and industrial users across the country.

The signing further solidifies POWERCHINA’s leading position in South Africa’s renewable energy construction market. It is also an important achievement of POWERCHINA’s efforts to promote the Belt and Road Initiative and carry forward the spirit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Beijing Summit. POWERCHINA will continue to utilize its strengths to support South Africa’s green energy transition and its economic and social development.
