A high-level delegation from South Korea, including representatives from several energy companies, visited the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) to learn about its advancements in renewable and clean energy. Led by Sung Soo Kim Su, Senior Vice President of the Global Sae-A Group, the delegation toured key facilities such as the Sustainability and Innovation Centre and the Research and Development (R&D) Centre at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. This solar park is recognized as the world’s largest single-site facility operating under the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model, with plans to generate over 5,000 MWs by 2030.

During their visit, officials at DEWA’s R&D Centre provided detailed insights into the Green Hydrogen project. This initiative is the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa to produce hydrogen using solar energy. The hydrogen storage tank can maintain up to 12 hours of hydrogen, a significant capability that supports the stability and potential future uses of hydrogen as a clean energy source. The project involves generating green hydrogen by splitting water molecules through electrolysis, powered by renewable energy. Designed with future adaptability in mind, the project allows for testing and application in various hydrogen-related fields, including energy and transportation.

The delegation also received a briefing at the Sustainability and Innovation Centre, which operates as a global hub for fostering innovation in clean and renewable energy. The center offers an interactive experience for visitors, showcasing cutting-edge developments in sustainable technologies. This hub is intended to stimulate further research and inspire practical applications in the clean energy sector.

The South Korean delegation expressed appreciation for DEWA’s achievements in innovation, particularly highlighting its role in advancing research and development within the renewable energy domain. The exchange underscored the potential for collaboration and knowledge-sharing between South Korea and Dubai in the clean energy sector.
