VictoriaMetrics, an open-source time-series database and monitoring solution provider, has teamed up with IHI Terrasun Solutions, a leader in energy storage systems integration, to work on one of North America’s biggest clean energy projects. The collaboration focuses on a large solar and storage project in Nevada, covering nearly 5,000 acres.

This project is designed to supply clean energy to meet up to 10% of Nevada’s electricity demand during peak times. It will also cut the stateโ€™s carbon emissions by 1.5 million tons annually. VictoriaMetricsโ€™ advanced database and monitoring tools will help optimize the performance of over 1.8 million solar panels and ensure the health of a massive 1,416 MWh energy storage system, one of the largest in the world.

To manage the large amounts of data generated by the solar panels and battery storage systems, IHI Terrasunโ€™s solution efficiently processes millions of metrics per second with high accuracy. Traditional systems couldn’t handle the growing data demands, prompting IHI Terrasunโ€™s data science and management teams to look for a better solution. After thorough evaluation, they chose VictoriaMetricsโ€™ Enterprise solution as the best option.

Larry Kane, SVP of Project and Product Engineering at IHI Terrasun, stated, โ€œVictoriaMetrics is an essential part of data management for our work in Nevada. The platform’s ability to handle massive datasets with ease has been invaluable. We use the data to generate operational insights for maintenance and optimization, which is essential for the health of the project. The VictoriaMetrics teamโ€™s resourcefulness and quick response makes them a great partner in this technically challenging endeavor.โ€

VictoriaMetrics Enterprise proved to be the ideal solution for IHI Terrasunโ€™s large-scale energy project due to its four key strengths. First, its scalability allows it to handle millions of data points without sacrificing performance, ensuring that IHI Terrasunโ€™s operations remain efficient and reliable. Additionally, the platform provides real-time insights, powering IHI Terrasunโ€™s Assured Insightsโ„ข dashboards and enabling real-time monitoring of battery health and grid stability, which helps the team make informed decisions and optimize field operations. The reliability of VictoriaMetrics ensures that data integrity is maintained even in demanding conditions, making it a trusted solution for critical systems. Finally, its cost-effectiveness offers a scalable and affordable way to manage large data flows, adding significant value to IHI Terrasunโ€™s Assured Insightsโ„ข platform.

Artem Navoiev, Co-Founder of VictoriaMetrics, mentioned, โ€œWeโ€™re thrilled to see VictoriaMetrics help grow IHI Terrasun’s energy storage operations over the past six years. Our commitment to developing an efficient and scalable solution has been central to VictoriaMetricsโ€™ mission, and we could not have achieved this success without IHI Terrasunโ€™s invaluable feedback on our Enterprise product. In these times where breaking heat records has become a new normal, I’m glad that solar projects on this scale exist, and that VictoriaMetrics can support them. If we can help reduce CO2 emissions, we’re making a difference. This is a win-win-win for IHI Terrasun, VictoriaMetrics, and ultimately, for the planet.โ€

As the Nevada megaproject continues to store clean energy with IHI Terrasunโ€™s management, VictoriaMetrics will play a key role in its success. With its focus on innovation and customer satisfaction, VictoriaMetrics is well-equipped to support IHI Terrasunโ€™s energy storage projects and help create a more sustainable future.
