JSW Renew Energy Five Limited, a subsidiary of JSW, received Letters of Award (LoAs) from the Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) on January 19, 2023, for the development of 500 MW / 1,000 MWh Standalone Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) projects. These projects were intended to contribute to India’s growing energy storage capacity. Following the receipt of the LoAs, SECI filed a petition before the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) for the adoption of the tariff for these projects.

However, on January 2, 2025, CERC did not approve the proposed tariff. The commission observed that the proposed tariff did not align with the prevailing market prices, largely due to delays in SECI signing the Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement and the Battery Energy Storage Sale Agreement. In response to this decision, JSW Renew Energy is in the process of filing an appeal against the CERC order, aiming to resolve the issue and proceed with the projects as planned.
