PETRONAS and Petrovietnam to Strengthen Energy Cooperation

Malaysiaโ€™s Petroliam Nasional Bhd (PETRONAS) and Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam) are set to accelerate collaboration in Vietnamโ€™s energy sector, covering upstream and downstream activities, gas, and renewable energy (RE). Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized the significance of this partnership during his official visit to Vietnam.

Advancing Renewable Energy and Power Grid Connectivity
Anwar highlighted that both countries are enhancing cooperation in power generation and grid connectivity, aligning with the ASEAN Power Grid initiative aimed at regional energy security. Malaysia is making significant investments in green energy, including wind-based projects in southern Vietnam, along with the Gentari-Petrovietnam collaboration, which marks a strategic step toward sustainable energy transition.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties and Economic Cooperation
The Prime Minister underscored the deepening Malaysia-Vietnam relationship, reinforced by the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He emphasized Malaysiaโ€™s interest in expanding trade, investment, green energy, and digital technology cooperation while noting the potential for further integration in the semiconductor industry, artificial intelligence, and supply chains between both nations.

** Regional Stability and ASEAN Cooperation
During his meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Anwar reaffirmed Malaysiaโ€™s stance on maintaining stability in the South China Sea and ensuring compliance with international law. He also stressed the need to expedite negotiations on the Code of Conduct (COC) for the disputed waters.

On Myanmar, Anwar reiterated Malaysiaโ€™s commitment to advancing the Five-Point Consensus (5PC) to address the ongoing crisis. He emphasized that strong regional ties are essential for stability and prosperity, calling for strategic planning and decisive actions that yield tangible benefits for people and economies.
