Suniva, the largest and oldest U.S. manufacturer of high-efficiency monocrystalline silicon solar cells, and Heliene Inc., a leading U.S. solar PV module manufacturer, have partnered with Corning Incorporated to introduce the first fully American-made solar module. This milestone initiative ensures that every key component—polysilicon, wafers, and solar cells—is manufactured domestically, reinforcing the U.S. solar supply chain and advancing clean energy independence.
Under this collaboration, Corning is supplying the wafers and leveraging its majority ownership of Hemlock Semiconductor (HSC) to source HSC’s hyper-pure polysilicon for the project. Both the polysilicon and wafers are produced in Michigan, while Suniva manufactures the high-efficiency solar cells in Georgia. By using American-made materials of the highest quality, the initiative sets a new industry benchmark for domestic solar manufacturing.
AB Ghosh, Corning Vice President and General Manager of Solar Technologies and Chairman and CEO of Hemlock Semiconductor, said “Corning is excited to leverage our advanced manufacturing expertise to deliver top-quality solar components and secure the U.S. energy supply chain.”
Matt Card, President of Suniva, stated “We are excited that this partnership brings a truly Made-in-America solution to the United States market. Together, our companies offer the only solar cell in the market that provides U.S. developers maximum ITC domestic content advantage – while building a domestic supply chain that provides for American energy independence and a strong manufacturing base.”
Martin Pochtaruk, CEO of Heliene, commented “This partnership is a significant milestone for the U.S. solar industry. By combining our strengths, we are able to deliver not only a high-performance module but also support the domestic economy and American job creation.”
The newly developed solar module features cells with up to 66% domestic content—the highest percentage available on the market. This makes it an attractive choice for solar developers seeking to maximize incentives under the Investment Tax Credit (ITC) domestic content bonus. By meeting these stringent requirements, the partnership not only strengthens the U.S. solar industry but also provides significant financial benefits to developers adopting American-made solar technology.
This collaboration represents a critical step toward revitalizing U.S. solar manufacturing and reducing reliance on foreign supply chains. By combining Corning’s expertise in advanced materials, Suniva’s leadership in solar cell production, and Heliene’s excellence in module manufacturing, the initiative paves the way for a more resilient and competitive American solar industry.
