On Global Recycling Day 2025, leaders from the recycling and waste management industry emphasized the importance of recycling in creating a sustainable future. The day is a reminder that recycling is not just about managing waste but also about recovering resources, fighting climate change, and building a circular economy. Industry experts and company leaders shared their insights on how recycling plays a crucial role in conserving natural resources, reducing environmental impact, and supporting the global transition to renewable energy.
Mr. Shubham Vishvakarma, Founder and Chief of Process Engineering at Metastable Materials, shared his thoughts on the growing significance of battery recycling. He said, โAs the world focuses more on sustainability, recycling has become crucial for society. Battery recycling in particular is becoming important in the transition to renewable energy. Its success will help in protecting the environment and ensuring a steady supply of critical minerals. But to succeed, recyclers must adapt to handle the volumes of end-of-life batteries and the different mix of battery chemistries that are currently being used, along with a myriad of other problems. Similarly, the recycling industry as a whole may have gained importance, but scalability, efficiency, and limited profit margins remain significant challenges.โ
He further added that working on robust collection infrastructure and technological innovation in recycling processes for better scalability and efficiency concerning resource use and recovery rates can potentially help the recycling industry. Profit margins for metal recyclers are dependent on commodity prices; hence, the technological expertise to recycle the changing battery chemistries and other feedstock efficiently while ensuring a steady supply of waste feedstock is essential. All recyclers must produce high-quality end products that have a decent market demand to ensure a steady profit margin. The recycling industry is the cornerstone of the circular economy and requires high consumer and industry awareness and engagement to realize its full potential. Ultimately, the success of recyclingโwhether for batteries, plastics, or metalsโwill depend on collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment to building a circular economy.
Mr. Prashant Singh, CEO and Co-Founder of Blue Planet Environmental Solutions, also shared his views on the occasion. He said, โEvery discarded item holds the potential for a new beginning. A plastic bottle could be reborn as fabric, an old circuit board could yield valuable metals, and yesterdayโs waste could fuel tomorrowโs innovations. On this Global Recycling Day, we reaffirm our commitment to transforming waste into opportunity, advancing sustainable waste management and resource recovery for a cleaner, greener future.โ
He also emphasized the role of Blue Planet Environmental Solutions in supporting a zero-waste future. He said, โAt Blue Planet Environmental Solutions, we believe recycling is more than just a processโitโs a promise to future generations. Partnering with governments, industries, and communities, we implement technology-driven recycling solutions that ensure maximum resource recovery and responsible waste disposal. Whether it’s municipal waste, industrial byproducts, or e-waste, our advanced systems breathe new life into materials that would otherwise be lost to landfills.โ
Mr. Singh highlighted the success of Singaporeโs recycling ecosystem. He stated, โSingapore has built a robust recycling ecosystem, where recyclables travel from dedicated collection trucks to Materials Recovery Facilities (MRFs). Here, they are carefully sorted, processed, and repurposed into new products at local and international recycling plantsโcontributing significantly to the nationโs ambition of a zero-waste future.โ
He also mentioned the challenge of e-waste management and how their solutions help. He said, โIn a world driven by technology, e-waste is growing at an unprecedented pace. Yet, hidden within discarded electronics are precious metals and reusable components waiting to be recovered. Through our innovative recycling technologies, we ensure these valuable resources are efficiently extracted and reintegrated into the economy, reducing environmental impact and fostering a culture of sustainable consumption.โ
He concluded with a message of action and hope. He said, โEvery recycled item, every repurposed resource, and every sustainable choice brings us one step closer to a waste-free world. By leveraging circular practices and cutting-edge technology, Blue Planet is proud to support Singaporeโs sustainability goals, paving the way for a cleaner, more resource-efficient future. Today, letโs recognize the power of recycling and take actionโbecause the future isnโt just something we wait for. Itโs something we create, together.โ
Mr. Prassann Daphal, CEO of Recyclekaro, shared his perspective on the significance of Global Recycling Day 2025. He said, โRecycling isnโt just about waste managementโitโs about resource recovery, climate action, and building a self-sustaining future. As we celebrate Global Recycling Day 2025, letโs recognize the unsung Recycling Heroes who are transforming discarded materials into valuable resources, driving innovation, and pushing us closer to a circular economy. From businesses to individuals, every effort counts in reducing our environmental footprint. The future isnโt just renewableโitโs recyclable.โ
The messages from these industry leaders highlight the growing recognition of recycling as a key pillar in the transition toward sustainability. They also point to the need for innovation, collaboration, and commitment from all stakeholdersโgovernments, industries, and communities alike. On this Global Recycling Day, their words encourage everyone to participate actively in recycling efforts, aiming for a cleaner and greener future.
