Prime Infra Partners with Mace to Advance Major Renewable Energy Projects

Prime Infrastructure Capital Inc. (Prime Infra) has signed an agreement with global construction and project management firm Mace to accelerate the development of two major hydroelectric projects—the 600-megawatt (MW) Wawa and the 1,400MW Pakil pumped storage plants. The partnership aims to enhance efficiency and governance, ensuring the timely completion of these large-scale renewable energy projects.

Strengthening Project Management for Renewable Expansion

As part of the collaboration, Mace will implement a Project Management Office (PMO) framework designed to optimize Prime Infra’s existing systems. The framework will streamline operations across key areas, including organizational structure, processes, information management, and technology, to ensure a transparent and results-driven approach.

Prime Infra CEO Guillaume Lucci highlighted the significance of the partnership in meeting the country’s energy demand. “Delivering the Wawa and Pakil projects on schedule is critical to supporting the Philippines’ energy transition. Mace’s expertise strengthens the efficiency and structure of our execution processes,” Lucci stated.

Project Milestones and Renewable Energy Targets

The 600MW Wawa project is expected to be operational by 2029, with a daily storage capacity of 6,000 megawatt-hours (MWh). Meanwhile, the 1,400MW Pakil plant, set for completion in 2030, will provide a daily storage capacity of 14,000MWh, making it one of the largest pumped storage facilities in Asia. These projects are crucial in stabilizing the national grid and supporting the Philippines’ renewable energy targets of 35% by 2030 and 50% by 2050.

Mace Consult CEO Davendra Dabasia emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership. “This collaboration reflects our commitment to building resilient and sustainable infrastructure in the Philippines and the wider Asia-Pacific region. We have been working with Prime Infra on the scale and complexity of these projects for over a year and look forward to delivering this critical infrastructure program,” he noted.

Government Support and Sustainable Development

Both projects have received Certificates of Energy Project of National Significance from the Department of Energy, along with Green Lane approvals from the Department of Trade and Industry and the Board of Investments. These endorsements reinforce their role in advancing the country’s renewable energy infrastructure.

For Prime Infra, chaired by Enrique K. Razon Jr., the hydroelectric initiatives align with its broader commitment to sustainable energy, water, and waste management solutions that drive economic impact. The signing ceremony was attended by Prime Infra’s Minerva Matibag and Noel Gonzales, alongside Mace representatives Matthew Fitch and Nick Boekel.
