Accelergen Energy, a company focused on developing utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) and hybrid solar-storage projects, has announced the appointment of Matthew Hasvold as Vice President of Markets and Origination. In this new role, Hasvold will be responsible for building and managing relationships with utilities, corporate energy buyers, and wholesale trading firms. He will also lead the origination, structuring, and negotiation of off-take agreements to support and advance Accelergenโs growing project pipeline.
Accelergen takes a data-driven, analytics-focused approach to energy project development. By identifying high-value grid nodes and conducting in-depth site evaluations, the company is able to bring high-quality projects to commercialization more efficiently. Hasvoldโs background in grid operations and resource procurement aligns closely with this strategy, bringing valuable insight to Accelergenโs market-focused development efforts.
Thomas Houle, co-founder and CEO of Accelergen Energy, said in a statement, โMatthew brings a depth of understanding about buyers’ actual needs and how markets truly function beyond theory. His years of hands-on experience will strengthen our ability to develop projects that meet real-world energy demands and create lasting partnerships built on trust and mutual benefit.โ
Matthew Hasvold stated, โAccelergen has a clear differentiated strategy, a leadership team with a great track record, and a portfolio thatโs well positioned to support both grid reliability and decarbonization. Itโs the kind of company where I can help shape practical energy solutions in markets that urgently need both capacity and energy.โ
Hasvold has over ten years of experience in energy trading, procurement, and contract negotiations. Prior to joining Accelergen, he worked as an Originator at Black Hills Corporation, where he led negotiations for long-term power purchase agreements. His previous roles also included real-time trading and dispatch responsibilities in the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) and Southwest Power Pool (SPP) markets.
In addition to his professional experience, Hasvold is a certified system operator by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and has served in leadership roles with local nonprofit organizations. He holds a Juris Doctor degree from Creighton University and a dual bachelorโs degree in Business Economics and Political Science from South Dakota State University. His combination of market knowledge, regulatory expertise, and leadership will contribute to Accelergenโs mission of delivering innovative, utility-scale energy storage solutions.
