Atlas Renewable Energy, a global leader in renewable energy solutions for industrial sectors and one of Brazil’s largest solar photovoltaic producers, announced a new milestone in its partnership with Dow, a major player in the chemical industry. As part of the agreement, Atlas will supply clean energy from the Casablanca Solar Energy Complex to Dow’s facility in Bahia, Brazil, helping to avoid around 37,000 tons of CO₂ emissions annually. This achievement reinforces both companies’ dedication to sustainability and the broader energy transition in the region, while further strengthening Atlas’ leadership in centralized solar generation across Latin America.
The Casablanca Solar Energy Complex, consisting of multiple plants in Minas Gerais, Brazil, has a total installed capacity of 358 MW.
Atlas and Dow first partnered in 2020 through a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the supply of solar energy from Atlas’ Jacaranda solar complex in Bahia, which has an installed capacity of 187 MW. The success of that collaboration laid the foundation for this new PPA, built on mutual trust and a shared commitment to advancing clean energy solutions.
Carlos Barrera, co-founder and CEO of Atlas Renewable Energy, said the partnership with Dow showcases Atlas’ ability to support various industrial sectors, including chemicals, in advancing a cleaner, more efficient energy grid. He also expressed gratitude for the trust placed in Atlas’ capabilities to drive the global clean energy transition.
Vinícius Sambuc, Dow’s Commercial Energy Manager in Brazil, emphasized that long-term power purchase agreements are vital to the company’s decarbonization strategy. He noted that shifting energy production and consumption patterns is crucial for cutting greenhouse gas emissions, improving energy diversification in Brazil, and maintaining price stability over the contract period.
Energy usage represents 50% of Dow’s global manufacturing site emissions, prompting the company to prioritize renewable energy as part of its ambitious sustainability agenda. Dow has pledged to cut its annual net carbon emissions by 5 million metric tons (about 15%) by 2030 and to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. Since early 2025, all nine of Dow’s operations in Brazil have been powered entirely by renewable energy.
