Recurrent Energy Successfully Begins Operations Of 127 MW Solar Project In Louisiana

Recurrent Energy, a subsidiary of Canadian Solar Inc. and a global leader in developing, owning, and operating solar and energy storage assets, recently marked a significant milestone with the completion and official launch of its Bayou Galion Solar project in Northeast Louisiana. A ribbon cutting ceremony and guided site tour were held to celebrate the project’s commercial operation, which began in November 2024.

The Bayou Galion Solar project has a generation capacity of 127 megawatts (MWdc) and is located in Morehouse Parish. As demand for clean electricity continues to grow—particularly from sectors such as manufacturing and data centers—solar energy investment across Louisiana is steadily increasing. By the end of 2024, total solar investment in the state surpassed $2 billion, highlighting a strong shift toward renewable energy solutions.

Dorothy Ford, Executive Director of the Bastrop-Morehouse Chamber of Commerce, said in a statement, “Solar energy creates a positive impact on its community. Kay King, CEO of Morehouse Economic Development Corporation, stated, “Congratulations to Recurrent Energy on the completion of the Bayou Galion Project. Solar development in our parish improves our tax base, adds income to landowners, and diversifies our area’s electrical power sources. Morehouse Parish supports this development, which is building a foundation for a strong electrical grid system that will power future growth here and across our region.”

Local leaders and community members were invited to the celebration at the Bayou Galion site, where they toured the facility and learned more about its operations and impact. The solar project is capable of generating enough electricity to power approximately 20,500 homes each year. Beyond delivering clean energy, the project also contributes to the local economy through increased tax revenues that support public services and infrastructure. As part of its ongoing commitment to the community, Recurrent Energy is making a donation to the Cotton Country Players, a local theatre group that supports the historic Rose Theatre in the region.

This contribution reflects the company’s focus on not only advancing renewable energy but also fostering local arts and culture. Bayou Galion Solar’s development and financing were supported by a $160 million package, with Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Inc. (MUFG) serving as the Coordinating Lead Arranger. Construction of the facility was led by Primoris Renewables Energy, Inc., which worked alongside regional contractors and vendors to bring the project to completion. With this project now online, Recurrent Energy continues to expand its renewable energy footprint in the U.S. while supporting local economies and driving progress toward a more sustainable energy future.
