The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has revised the capacity target of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, boosting it from 5,000 megawatts (MW) to over 7,260MW by 2030.
DEWA highlighted that the solar park — recognized as the world’s largest single-site solar facility developed under the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model — will involve a total investment of AED 50 billion.
As of now, 3,460MW of clean energy capacity has already been commissioned at the site through a mix of photovoltaic (PV) panels and concentrated solar power (CSP) technologies. An additional 1,800MW of PV capacity is currently under construction.
The solar park contributes significantly to Dubai’s energy mix, with clean energy now accounting for 20% of the emirate’s total installed power generation capacity.
The ongoing tendering process for the seventh phase of the project is expected to push the clean energy contribution to 34% by 2030, surpassing the previous target of 27%.
This initiative forms a key part of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, which aims for the emirate to achieve 100% clean energy generation by mid-century.
