Century Synthetic Fiber Corporation (STK), a leading manufacturer of long filament yarns in Vietnam, is accelerating its sustainability drive through the implementation of energy-saving technologies and the expansion of rooftop solar power projects.

With an annual production capacity exceeding 60,000 tons, STK specializes in high-quality POY (Partially Oriented Yarn), DTY (Drawn Texturized Yarn), and FDY (Fully Drawn Yarn), serving primarily high-end sportswear fabric manufacturers. The company has emerged as a market leader in Vietnam’s long filament yarn sector.

In line with its commitment to environmental responsibility and cost efficiency, particularly in electricity consumption, STK has launched a series of initiatives aimed at reducing energy usage and increasing the adoption of renewable energy sources.

Speaking on the company’s energy strategy, Mr. Nguyen Van Hai, Head of the Utility Department at STK, highlighted several measures undertaken, including investment in energy-saving machinery, replacement of outdated equipment, and the design of factory infrastructure to optimize natural lighting and ventilation.

Between 2018 and 2023, STK’s adoption of innovations such as inverters for machinery and upgraded compressed air systems resulted in electricity savings of over 2.6 million kWh and a reduction of approximately 12,768 tons of CO₂ emissions.

In early 2024, STK’s Trảng Bàng facility conducted a comprehensive greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory to better understand energy consumption patterns and identify optimization opportunities. The facility has since implemented measures such as switching to LED lighting and installing inverters on oil exhaust fans, collectively saving the company around VND 465 million annually.

The corporation also conducts energy audits every three years to assess performance and identify inefficiencies, supporting continuous improvement in energy management.

A major milestone in STK’s green transition has been the deployment of rooftop solar power systems. Since 2020, STK has partnered with strategic stakeholders to install 7.4 MWp of solar power capacity at its Củ Chi and Trảng Bàng plants. By 2023, solar energy contributed over 6% of STK’s total power consumption. The company now plans to extend these efforts to its Unitex factory and launch Direct Power Purchase Agreement (DPPA) projects at both Unitex and Trảng Bàng.

In recognition of its efforts, STK was awarded the Industrial Energy Efficiency Award in 2024, underscoring its leadership in sustainable manufacturing within the textile industry.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade estimates a 20% energy-saving potential in Vietnam’s textile sector. STK’s commitment to energy efficiency and renewable power reflects the growing momentum among industrial players to adopt climate-conscious practices, boost productivity, and enhance competitiveness.
