The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is taking center stage as the Strategic Sustainability Partner at the Arab Media Summit 2025, which kicked off on 26 May at the Dubai World Trade Centre. Organised by the Dubai Press Club under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and guided by the directives of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council, the three-day summit is bringing together global media professionals, content creators, thought leaders, and decision-makers.

DEWA is using its platform at the summit to highlight its landmark initiatives in clean energy, sustainability, and technological innovation. A major highlight was a panel discussion on the second day titled โ€œUsing Future Technologies to Enhance Sustainability,โ€ where DEWA experts explored the impact of digital innovation on the UAEโ€™s national sustainability and net-zero goals.

Dr Ali Alsuwaidi, Chief Innovation Officer at DEWA, emphasized the authorityโ€™s ongoing digital transformation and its integration of cutting-edge solutions such as ChatGPT to streamline internal processes, reduce paper usage, and improve service delivery. He pointed to smart initiatives such as the High Water Usage Alert and smart meters, which empower customers to monitor and control their consumption in real time, ultimately promoting resource efficiency.

Ghanim Alqassim, Senior Manager of Solar Energy, shed light on the advanced technologies driving operational efficiency at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Parkโ€”the worldโ€™s largest single-site solar project under the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. These technologies include solar-tracking systems, robotic panel cleaning, and predictive maintenance tools. Alqassim noted that the solar park aims to achieve a production capacity of 7,260MW by 2030, contributing to 34% clean energy in Dubaiโ€™s energy mix and reducing carbon emissions by 8 million tonnes annually.

Khalid Binkalban, Manager of Digital Products Management, discussed DEWAโ€™s deep investment in artificial intelligence (AI) and predictive analytics to enhance operations and improve customer satisfaction. He highlighted smart systems for leak detection, interactive consumption dashboards, and proactive customer engagement, alongside DEWAโ€™s internal efforts to build an Emirati talent pool specializing in AI and digital transformation.
