ACEN, in collaboration with UPC Renewables, has begun construction on two large-scale renewable energy projects in Indiaโa 420 MW solar farm in Rajasthan and a 120 MW wind farm in Karnataka. These developments represent a major step in the companiesโ joint efforts to expand their presence in Indiaโs fast-growing clean energy sector. Scheduled for completion by early 2027, the two projects are expected to generate a combined 1,158 GWh of renewable electricity each year. This output will be sufficient to power approximately 241,000 homes while preventing over 876,000 tons of carbon emissions annually.
Both projects contribute to Indiaโs broader goals of increasing non-fossil fuel energy capacity and accelerating the transition to cleaner sources of power. The 420 MW solar facility is being developed in Barmer, Rajasthan, an area known for its high solar irradiance. This plant alone is expected to produce around 767 GWh of clean energy per year. Meanwhile, the 120 MW wind farm in Karnataka will utilize the regionโs strong monsoonal winds and favorable topography to generate 391 GWh annually.
Patrice Clausse, ACEN International CEO and group chief investment officer, said in a statement, “These new projects represent not just scale, but momentum as we continue to turn opportunities into action. Our enduring partnership with UPC Renewables has been instrumental in enabling disciplined capital deployment across high-potential markets like India.”
Brian Caffyn, chairman and group CEO of UPC Renewables, commented, “Since 1994, UPC has been at the forefront of delivering renewable energy projects across multiple jurisdictions. The commencement of these new projects marks another important milestone in our expansion across Asia-Pacific, reinforcing our commitment to scalable and sustainable energy solutions. Following the successful deployment of 630 MWp of solar capacity in India, this next phase further strengthens our trusted partnership with ACEN and the excellent team in India driving this vision forward.”
Alok Nigam, CEO, UPC Renewables India, mentioned, “We are thrilled to kick off the second phase of growth for UPC India’s platform with the construction of these 500 MW+ solar and wind projects. The projects are part of a broader pipeline of 1 GWp+ RE projects, which we aim to deliver over the next two years and plays a meaningful role in India’s green energy transition.โ
In addition to their environmental impact, the projects are also set to drive economic benefits locally, with over 1,500 green jobs expected to be created during the construction phase. This aligns with the companiesโ focus on supporting community development alongside renewable energy deployment. These new ventures build on ACEN and UPC Renewablesโ existing footprint in India, which already includes three operational solar assets: the 420 MW Masaya Solar, 70 MW Paryapt Solar, and 140 MW Sitara Solar projects. Together, the current and upcoming projects reflect the partnersโ long-term commitment to Indiaโs clean energy future.
