The Washington State Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council (EFSEC) has officially approved the Site Certification Agreement (SCA) for Cypress Creek Renewablesโ 160-megawatt Carriger Solar project, moving it one step closer to development. The project will now be forwarded to Governor Bob Ferguson for final review and consideration. The approval marks the end of a thorough planning and review process that spanned nearly eight years, including 28 months of formal evaluation under EFSEC.
Throughout this time, Cypress Creek engaged with various stakeholders and worked closely with EFSEC to ensure the project meets environmental, zoning, and community standards. Carriger Solar is planned for development on private, largely unirrigated land in Washington State and is designed to avoid any unmitigated impacts to sensitive environmental or cultural resources. It is fully aligned with local zoning regulations and has been carefully sited to minimize its footprint while maximizing the delivery of clean, reliable, carbon-free energy to the region.
Sarah Slusser, Cypress Creek CEO, mentioned, “We’re hopeful that Governor Ferguson will recognize the thoughtful planning and siting of this project, and the benefits it provides. Cypress Creek is committed to responsible and thoughtful development, and we are eager to continue to work to support Washington’s goals.”
Once operational, the project is expected to contribute to Washingtonโs clean energy goals and provide meaningful benefits at both the state and local levels. These include long-term renewable power generation and support for energy resilience in the Pacific Northwest. Cypress Creek Renewables, a nationwide developer, owner, and operator of utility and community-scale solar and energy storage projects, continues to grow its presence in Washington. The companyโs Ostrea Solar project in Yakima County received approval in April 2023 and is currently under construction, further reinforcing Cypress Creekโs long-term investment in the stateโs clean energy transition.
