Actis, a leading investor in sustainable infrastructure across growth markets, has acquired full ownership of Barghest Building Performance (bbp), a top Energy-Savings-as-a-Service (ESaaS) provider specialising in energy efficiency for HVAC systems across Asia.
bbp delivers innovative solutions that can reduce energy consumption by up to 40%, using patented software, proprietary know-how, sensors, and controllers. Its AI- and machine learning-enhanced platform draws from real-time data across more than 400,000 Refrigeration Tons (RT) of cooling systems optimised in nine Asian markets.
In addition to optimising existing systems, bbp selectively upgrades HVAC equipment, leveraging its proprietary technology to maximise savings with minimal capital outlay. The company typically funds these projects upfront, allowing customers to focus on core operations while benefiting from reduced energy costs and lower carbon emissions. Actis’ investment will support bbpโs ability to scale and take on larger projects across the region.
bbpโs clients span semiconductor and pharmaceutical manufacturers, data centres, district cooling plants, hospitals, and commercial buildings. Its customer base includes three of the worldโs top 10 semiconductor firms, Fortune 500 companies, and several of Asiaโs top 20 commercial real estate firms. To date, bbp has helped its customers avoid 312,000 tonnes of COโe and save around US$92 million. Asanka Rodrigo, Partner, Energy Infrastructure at Actis, commented, โCooling systems can be very energy intensive and bbpโs Energy-Savings-as-a-Service offering has a key role to play to help businesses reduce their costs and carbon emissions. Energy efficiency is key to decarbonisation and weโre delighted to be acquiring an innovative leader in this field with bbp. We believe it has a bright future ahead of it and we look forward to accelerating its growth.โ
