TotalEnergies has signed an agreement with NativState, an Arkansas-based forest carbon project developer, to conserve forests threatened by land conversion and intensive timber harvesting. The partnership covers 13 Improved Forest Management (IFM) projects across Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennesseeโ€”spanning 100,000 hectares (247,000 acres) of land owned by over 280 private family forest landowners.

NativStateโ€™s carbon program offers landowners a sustainable income alternative to heavy logging by promoting long-term forest stewardship and improving carbon stocks. The initiative supports sustainable forestry practices, including protecting high conservation value areas, enhancing biodiversity, managing streamside zones, and preserving wildlife corridors. It also delivers social and financial benefits by offering forest management education, technical assistance, and access to voluntary carbon markets.

All carbon credits generated will be certified by the American Carbon Registry (ACR), a globally recognized standard. TotalEnergies will acquire these credits and begin using them from 2030 onward to voluntarily offset part of its residual direct Scope 1 and 2 emissionsโ€”after prioritizing emissions reduction and avoidance. โ€œTotalEnergies confirms its commitment to support the conservation and enhancement of carbon sinks, with local value creationโ€, saidย Adrien Henry, Vice President Nature Based Solutions at TotalEnergies. โ€œWe are thrilled to support NativState to scale up their operations, directly benefiting the environment and their local communities.โ€

โ€œWe, at NativState, are honored and deeply grateful for our partnership with TotalEnergies and our forest landowner families, which creates extraordinary opportunities to build a lasting legacy for small forest landowners in our communities across the southern United States while supporting TotalEnergies in addressing the challenges of global energy markets,โ€ saidย Stuart Allen, NativState Founder and CEO. โ€œIt is a privilege to empower these landowners to embrace sustainable forestry practices, cultivating healthier lands and stronger communities for generations to come.โ€
