French renewable energy producer Qair has secured a loan agreement to finance the construction of 60 MW of hybrid solar and storage projects in Mauritius. The funding, provided by the State Bank of Mauritius (SBM Bank), will support the implementation of four projects awarded to Qair in 2023 under power purchase agreements with the Central Electricity Board (CEB).

The Storโ€™Sun photovoltaic farms will be equipped with large-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) designed to stabilise the national grid. Once operational, they will contribute to Mauritiusโ€™ target of achieving a 60% share of renewable energy in its electricity mix by 2030.

Qair has been active in Mauritius since 2008 and currently operates a 10 MW wind farm in Plaine des Roches, along with solar parks totalling 25.3 MW. Beyond Mauritius, the company has renewable energy assets in Burkina Faso, Tunisia, Morocco, Seychelles, and other African nations, bringing its total installed capacity across the continent to 65 MW.
