The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has issued a clarification on the usage of modules listed under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) List-I and List-II, effective from August 31, 2025. The move is seen as a significant step in shaping Indiaโs renewable energy growth trajectory.
Under the Government of Indiaโs target to develop 50 GW of solar projects annually, the current domestic DCR TopCon cell manufacturing capacity stands at around 6 GW. Industry stakeholders note that while domestic module manufacturing has seen steady progress, the revised guidelines could pose operational challenges.
Independent Power Producers (IPPs) may face uncertainty over the availability of DCR-compliant modules, potentially affecting project timelines and execution. Meanwhile, module manufacturers, despite expanding production capabilities, may encounter difficulties in sourcing DCR cells, raising concerns over production continuity.
Industry experts emphasize the need for a coordinated roadmap that balances deployment targets with manufacturing scalability. Stakeholders have called for timely dialogue between policymakers and the private sector to ensure clarity and alignment in short-term business planning.
Analysts say that with proactive engagement and supportive policy measures, the sector can address these challenges and leverage the opportunity for resilient and inclusive growth in Indiaโs solar industry.
