Westbrooke Renewable Energy Alternatives, an alternative investment strategy managed by Westbrooke Alternative Asset Management, has acquired a portfolio of operational solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage system (BESS) assets at 91 Shell Downstream South Africa (SDSA) service stations across South Africa. The acquisition was made in partnership with CVE South Africa, an experienced independent power producer, and the assets were purchased from Thebe Solar Energy as part of its strategic realignment.

The portfolio is fully operational and generates approximately 7.8 GWh of renewable energy annually. This acquisition aligns with Westbrooke Realโ€™s strategy to invest in behind-the-meter solar projects in South Africa in collaboration with experienced operators such as CVE. Westbrooke Real and CVE have a history of partnership, having jointly acquired and developed four renewable energy portfolios to date. Together, they now own over 12 MW of solar projects, reflecting their shared commitment to investing in high-quality renewable energy assets.

The transaction highlights Westbrooke Realโ€™s capability to structure and execute complex deals in the South African renewable energy sector. The strategy provides investors with access to renewable energy assets and positions the firm to pursue additional investments alongside leading industry partners, with capital readily available for future opportunities. Under the new ownership, the 91 SDSA sites will benefit from Westbrooke Realโ€™s long-term investment support, ensuring continued value and stability for the assets. With CVEโ€™s proven operational expertise, the sites are expected to maintain high-quality management and a reliable supply of renewable energy.
