Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, inaugurated the Assembly earlier today, emphasizing India’s leadership role in shaping global renewable energy policy and access.

Key Objectives and Global Participation

The Assembly aims to strengthen international cooperation in solar deployment and align member countries toward the collective goal of affordable, reliable, and sustainable solar energy for all. Delegates will review ISA’s progress, discuss challenges in solar financing and technology transfer, and adopt a roadmap focused on energy equity and climate resilience.

India’s Milestones Highlighted

During his address, Minister Pralhad Joshi underscored India’s remarkable progress in clean energy:

  • India has achieved 50% of its total installed power capacity from non-fossil sources, five years ahead of its 2030 target.
  • The country is now the third-largest solar power producer globally.
  • Under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, over 20 lakh households are benefiting from rooftop solar installations, advancing India’s goal of decentralized clean energy access.

ISA’s Strategic Focus

The International Solar Alliance, headquartered in India, is advancing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s global initiative of “One Sun, One World, One Grid.” The Assembly will deliberate on expanding solar adoption in critical sectors such as:

  • Agriculture and irrigation
  • Healthcare infrastructure
  • Transportation and electric mobility
  • Large-scale power generation and storage

Committees are expected to discuss new financing mechanisms for developing countries, launch global frameworks for floating solar projects, and promote solar-based livelihood initiatives in the Global South.

Global Energy Transition Leadership

The ISA Assembly is being closely watched ahead of COP30, with member nations expected to announce collective strategies for accelerating renewable energy deployment and scaling climate investments. As the world’s second-largest renewable energy growth market, India is positioning itself as a pivotal force in shaping the next decade of clean energy transition.

With widespread participation from governments, industry stakeholders, and global financial institutions, the 8th ISA Assembly is set to serve as a defining moment in global solar diplomacy, reinforcing India’s leadership in charting a path toward a carbon-neutral future powered by solar innovation.
