Jodhpur Discom has achieved a significant milestone under the Prime Minister Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthan Mahabhiyan (PM KUSUM) scheme, crossing a total solar capacity of 2,017.33 MW. This total includes contributions from both KUSUM-A and KUSUM-C components and highlights the leadership of Jodhpur Discom in strengthening rural energy infrastructure not only in Rajasthan but across India. The achievement is being seen as a major step in promoting clean energy and supporting rural development.

Under KUSUM-A, 240 solar plants have been installed with a combined capacity of 336.25 MW. According to Dr. Bhanwarlal, Managing Director of Jodhpur Discom, this component is helping empower decentralized energy generation in rural areas. It allows farmers to earn additional income through leasing their land or selling the energy generated from the solar plants. The scheme has provided a stable source of income for farmers, helping them manage the uncertainties of agricultural production while improving financial security.

KUSUM-C has also made a major impact with 639 solar plants installed, contributing 1,681.08 MW of capacity. In addition, 84,088 solar pumps have been provided to farmers under this component. This has significantly reduced reliance on diesel for irrigation, leading to a substantial decrease in irrigation costs. Farmers are now able to plan their agricultural activities more efficiently and reliably. The network created under KUSUM-C is considered one of the largest in terms of providing clean and continuous energy in rural areas.

Beyond energy generation, the PM KUSUM scheme has brought wide-ranging social and economic benefits to rural communities. Dr. Bhanwarlal noted that the solar installations have generated employment opportunities for local youth in roles such as technicians, maintenance staff, security personnel, and support for small supply-chain businesses. The scheme has helped reduce rural migration and encouraged the development of small enterprises, including solar pump repair stations, electrical shops, and local transport services. Increased electricity availability has also improved rural drinking water projects, boosted handicraft production, supported dairy farming, and enhanced cold storage capacities. It has contributed to a better quality of life, improved night-time safety, and created additional employment opportunities, particularly for women.

Dr. Bhanwarlal emphasized that the goal of Jodhpur Discom is not only to increase solar capacity but also to provide farmers with clean, reliable, and affordable energy. Crossing the 2,000 MW mark reflects careful planning, innovation, and strong teamwork. This achievement under PM KUSUM demonstrates the potential of renewable energy to transform rural livelihoods, promote sustainable development, and create long-term social and economic benefits for communities.
